You can see the additional sections, a cupola and what looks like a small garden on the west side of the 1949 barn. The Sailing Barn hasn't had those parts for a long time (if anyone remembers when or why, please comment!), but we are looking to keep and restore the parts we still do have!
The sailing barn was built as part of the original estate more than 100 years ago. It housed horses and all the basics to run the small Jennings farm. But it is beyond its useful life. Sometime, perhaps 30 years ago, structural alternations were made to the frame, destroying the barn's long-term integrity. The locust posts on which it lies have withstood the test of time, but even locust posts have a finite lifespan. Reconstruction work has begun, Spring 2014!
