The condition of the sailing barn makes us all a bit sad. It was built as part of the original estate more than 100 years ago. It housed horses and all the basics to run the small Jennings farm. But it is beyond its useful life. Sometime, perhaps 30 years ago, structural alternations were made to the frame, destroying the barn's long-term integrity. The locust posts on which it lies have withstood the test of time, but even locust posts have a finite lifespan. Our current plan, as of the Fall of 2013, is to save the historic structure. We have our work cut out for us. The barn will need a full steel frame under it installed and the building "raised" about a foot and a half. From there a foundation system will be built and the barn set back down. New basic electrical will need to be installed. The structure's "bones" will be there and as much as we can save, but the condition of the structural materials are beyond re-use. Unfortunately we will only know as we dive in! Some of the historic elements will be returned - such as the cupola if the budget allows. The Barn is home to our sailing program which is critical to our program offerings.
Total Estimated Cost: $200,000
