Spring & Fall Openings

Located on Shelter Island, between the North and South Forks of Long Island, Quinipet Camp & Retreat Center is a beautiful spot to teach! Quinipet offers a beach and shoreline for teaching marine programs, a low ropes course to facilitate team building, and boulders for rock climbing. Centered on curriculum development, teaching, facilitation, marketing and outreach, interns will experience a well-rounded learning opportunity. Interns also have the opportunity to leave their mark with a signature project, such as an organic vegetable garden.

Applicants should be strong communicators, leaders, and passionate about teaching children. Two interns are hired for each spring and fall season; September-early November and mid March-mid June. Compensation includes a weekly salary, private room in staff housing, staff kitchen, meals (when groups have food service), free laundry facilities, and training. Applicants must have or be working toward a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and have experience working with children.

Explore on your time off:
  • Riverhead is easily accessible by public transportation. Catch the Suffolk County bus, the Hampton Jitney, or the Long Island Railroad to make the 1 hour trip to Riverhead. Riverhead has every shop imaginable – Walmart, Target, and the Tanger Outlet Mall.
  • Greenport: Greenport is just a ride across the ferry with shops, great food choices, and roller skating!
  • Sag Harbor: Another historic village to explore is Sag Harbor, on the South Fork of Long Island. Take the South Ferry across and explore Sag Harbor village, with great food and shopping options.
  • Montauk: Montauk is a wonderful recreation spot! Take the Suffolk County bus to Montauk State Park, which has miles of trails, beaches, and an historic lighthouse. Bring food to make it a picnic!
  • New York City: Take the Hampton Jitney or the Long Island Railroad to Penn Station, and from there, the city is yours!
Quinipet Camp & Retreat Center is owned and operated by the New York Conference of The United Methodist Church.
Our incredible Shelter Island setting invites connection, reflection, and spiritual growth.  All are welcome!
