2011 Tropical Storm Irene battered our bulkhead leaving it weakened for future storms. A year later, Super Storm Hurricane Sandy hit, punching holes through much of the wall destroying its integrity. The damage was so extensive the bulkhead needs to be replaced rather than repaired to protect the land from erosion and further damage inflicted by future storms.
Hurricane Sandy in action.
The Sea Wall
Hurricane Sandy of 2012 destroyed approximately 2400 linear feet of bulkhead. The 2013 NYAC meeting approved a United States Small Business disaster relief mortgage at 3%. The view from the water will look a bit different after the work is underway and completed. We hope to arrange plantings and a walking trail along the top of the new bulkhead structure which will enhance and reclaim some of its beauty. Keep in mind, however, our landscape will look different from before... the storm left us no option.
