Our Mission
Camp Quinipet provides an opportunity for children and youth to experience the outdoors and discuss and examine their spiritual faith in a safe and fun environment.
Our Christian "by example" program; combined with a progressive view of the modern church; we hope, will give campers and staff an expanded way of viewing their faith. Our staff comes from a wide variety of spiritual backgrounds, predominantly, but not limited to Christianity. Our Christian program focuses on God's Universal Love for everyone as they are; The importance of being good stewards of the Earth; and the value of Community. |
How Camping at Quinipet Works
Our overnight campers come for one week intervals and attend one focused program for that week. They are grouped according to age and the program for which they registered. Most programs run from Sunday at 2pm to Saturday at 10am.
The break time on Saturday and Sunday between weeks is for staff to get some rest and allow for maintenance of the buildings, etc. Our day campers come Monday thru Friday from 9am to 4pm. Many campers come for the entire season, others just for a week or two. Campers are arranged in groups according to their age. Day camp staff is expected to help with the overnight program or in other areas in the evening. This arrangemenet provides overnight staff with an opportunity to take a break. Counselors rotate between day camp and overnight on a weekly basis. Program Directors work specifically with day camp or overnight for the entire season. Lifeguards, Sailing Instructors, Kitchen Staff and others assist in a variety of areas depending on their skills and interest. All Staff may be asked to help with work outside their daily job description in many ways, depending on the needs. |

Other Common Questions
What is living on Shelter Island for the summer like?
Quinipet certainly is on an island. Shelter Island is accessible by a 15-minute ferry ride from either the north or the south fork of Long Island. The ferry carries everything out to the island so it makes for a very unique experience. Shelter Island is about 2 hours east of New York City at the end of Long Island. The island has some small stores and shops; don't worry though, Greenport, on the mainland, is just a short walk from the ferry and has just about anything you could need or want. The eastern end of Long Island is one of the most beautiful, best kept secrets on earth.
What do I get for my hard work?
We are one of the highest paying camps, according to the American Camping Association, and we do this to attract quality staff. We make sure you're comfortable and can go back to school with some money in the bank. While you are working here, we provide you with shared on site housing and most meals so you have limited expenses. This allows you to bank a good portions of your wages.
You can expect to earn between $1,500 and $2,000 for the seven weeks of service (1 week of training and 5-6 weeks of camp). Quinipet also offers assistance for staff members traveling over 400 miles to get to camp. But more than all that, you will have an amazing and unforgettable summer of fun where you will meet people and make friends from all over the US and the World. Who attends Camp Quinipet?
Most of the children attending camp at Quinipet come from Long Island, New York City, lower New York State and Connecticut. We support diversity in our campers. The children are between 4 and 17 years old. We also have adult retreat groups that stay at Quinipet and take advantage of the setting.
