 2008 Programs

Sailing for the sake of Sailing!

So what is "Community Sailing"?

A community sailing program is a place where people can access the water and sailing without making huge financial and social commitments.  It is "sailing for the sake of sailing."  We hope you enjoy learning to sail and  share your experience with others.  Our hope is to have the program grow to a point where families can rent boats, where individuals can expand their sailing skills and people can simply enjoy this fabulous Shelter Island location.

Are you on Shelter Island and want to go sailing?  Do you want to learn the basics in a comfortable environment and “test” the waters?  Dona wants to teach you.  She learned the ins and outs of sailing a bit later in life and can teach with a guiding hand.  Come try sailing – we think you will love it.  Class size is limited to three people and plan to spend most of the time on the water aboard our Ensign.  This program has moderate physical activity which includes climbing a ladder to board watercrafts.

Adult Women's Sailing Week
July 20 - 26th

Women’s Sailing is in its 10th year at Quinipet.  This event is designed for women who want to learn how to sail but might not want the yelling or the high impact action some male counterparts tend to have in these "perceived" higher-stress situations.

Linda Bates-Steppe will organize the event at Quinipet.  All your basic meals and housing will be provided in the fee all with a Christian program you can choose to participate in.  Plan to arrive Sunday afternoon and partners may join on Friday night and stay until check out at 9:30 on Saturday.  Sailing will be mornings and afternoons, Monday through Friday.

Check the out the Asbury house on-line for view accommodations.  Bathrooms are on the hall and the 10 bedrooms will have to be shared.  Bring your own linens and a good book you might want to read in the down time.

Please register in the “Overnight” Camp section of the Quinipet Web Site.
