Environmental Education

Located on the rocky shores of the northwest corner of Shelter Island, Quinipet Camp & Retreat Center is the perfect location for outdoor environmental education.  Our program is available to groups of 10 to 150, ages 7 and up.  All of our programs are individually designed around your needs and can incorporate state standards for your grade level.  Our programs run anywhere from 1 to 5 days.

Quinipet Camp & Retreat Center can provide a beautiful outdoor learning facility for your program to discover and learn about Eastern Long Island's ecosystems and geology.  Our site provides hands on experiences in woodland, marine and coastal habitats as well as geologic clues to the formation of Long Island and map and compass skills.

No matter the time of year: fall, winter or spring; Quinipet's Environmental Education Programs can offer experiences for students that help foster understanding and respect for our regions natural resources and inherent beauty.

Adventure Challenge Course & Team Experience

The Quinipet Adventure Challenge Course, located on 30 acres of woods, waterfront and playing fields, is the perfect location for your group's adventure challenge retreat. Quinipet's Challenge program consists of a series of problem-solving activities designed to involve a group physically, mentally and emotionally.  Quinipet's facilities can handle groups of 10 to 150.

The basic themes of Quinipet Adventure are self discovery and the realization of individual potential through group processes.  Presenting challenges that require a group to work together to accomplish a task strengthens inter-personal dexterity and builds self-confidence.

Low ropes course activities focus on group effort and depend on group support, communication and spotting for safety.  Our Rock Climbing course focuses on the individual's performance of certain challenges at some distance from the ground, requiring a belay safety system. This creates a situation where the perceived risk appears much greater than the actual risk and allows participants to push their own limits.

Our groups range in age from 10 years old through adults.  All of our challenge programs are individually designed around your needs and goals and can be run anywhere from one to five days in length.  We book up a year in advance, so please call and reserve you program today!

Self-Hosted Smaller Group Trips.
If your group does not want the educational aspect of the program, Quinipet would be happy to coordinate adventures for you.  This might include hiking at a beautiful preserve, kayaking through salt marshes or some other group activities. We have a variety of suggestions of other activities that also promote teambuilding and adventure, taking full advantage of our location on the East End of Long Island!

Quinipet would be happy to make these arrangements for you!
