What is it?
The Overnight CIT program is for 16 and 17 year-olds to experience a week or two at camp, on the counselor's side of things. Coming for two days of training in early June, CITs are in a semi-formal interview process. Upon evaluating, they will be invited back for a week or two during the camp weeks dependent upon performance.
Do I need to go to the June Training Weekend?
Yes. Every staff member is required to participate in a training course before working with children. This weekend will help prepare you (your CIT) for what to expect when you arrive at camp. Especially for those that have been to camp before, this weekend will help you see the difference between your role as a camper and a counselor.
And the best part about the CIT weekend is, it's FUN! We play games, act out activities, and plan events that mimic what camp is going to be like. This year, the CIT weekend will be: Saturday, June 2nd @ 9 am -
Sunday, June 3rd @ 2 pm | What about the Day Camp?
The Day Camp program will be offering unpaid positions to children on Shelter Island, between the ages of 14 and 16, who are here for the day's events but spend the night at home.
Those interested in this opportunity should also apply using the form below, indicating the proper information. What kind of Training is involved with Day Camp CITs?ALL CIT's will be required to join us in June for the training weekend. This process allows future CITs to have a better understanding of what will be required of them, and allows us a chance to meet them before they show up on day 1.
